Well, we just completed another Jack Kirby Tribute Month (curated and created by Howard Simpson). I guess you could call this the bonus round. Like last year, I decided to try to assemble all of these into one, big image. With the exception of yesterday’s “wild card” round, which was not a Jack Kirby creation, so it doesn’t belong here. Plus 30 images just group together a lot easier than 31!
Seeing all of these together, I’m struck by how busy the end result is! There’s a lot going on. I guess that’s a result of my trying to give each panel a sense of narrative, as if they were each randomly plucked from the midst of larger stories.
A lotta work there! Seeing them all together makes me realize that. But it’s cool seeing them all in this context.
Will I do this again next year? We’ll see. I may tweak my process a little bit. I did this year, by adding the narrative aspect.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this trip with me, found it fun and inspirational.
Thanks, Mark! Always fun seeing your work, sir! Jack would be smiling if he saw your homage!
Thanks very much, Don! I appreciate the thought.
I really enjoyed this years tribute! Thanks for letting me be a part of it! Looking forward to your next post, although I am sure you will take a much deserved break.
Lyle Dodd! How are you, bro? BONE TIP!!
Howdy Don!
Great to hear from you! Have you been in So Cal lately?
I don’t want to break protocol here, but maybe Mark can send you my email, or you can send me yours!
Wasn’t this a great Kirby Tribute? I know what my favorite panel is, but I am not sure what my favorite six day set of panels are…
Thanks, Lyle! Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I have no plans to post anything new here the next few days.
Great work on your Jack Kirby tribute, Mark! I’m sure the King would be pleased.
Hey, Jim! Thanks very much!
Spectacular wrap-up. Yes, very busy. Mr Kirby would be touched. The presentation ending with Mad Harriet was puzzling, I must say. I wonder how Mr. Simpson arrives at his prompt list? Nevertheless, you have done the list justice. Thanks Mark.
Thanks for following along, Joe! I can’t speak to why certain prompts were on certain days, but I didn’t mind Mad Harriet being at the end this way. She sort worked as kind of a big exclamation point on the whole thing, at least from my perspective.
